5 Tips For Choosing The Right Food For Your Cat
Many years ago when I was a child, I experienced first hand the importance of choosing the correct food for your cat.
Due to a lack of knowledge about cat nutrition, we started to feed our family cat dry food, instead of wet food and after a while, to our horror, the poor cat’s hair started to fall out!
At first we didn’t know what was causing the loss of hair and then somebody suggested it could be the switch to a purely dry food diet.
After a week or so, the situation was remedied and hey presto! his coat had returned to its former glory.
So, I thought it would be a great idea to share with you 5 tips that I have learned for optimum nutrition for your cat.
1. Get Both Wet And Dry Food
Both are necessary, Cats need wet food because they are designed to get water from the food they eat, while dry food has been reported to preserve your cat’s teeth.
2. Read The Label.
Not all products are called “food”. Look out for “formula” or “dinner”, as this usually indicates that there is less of the indicated main ingredient in the product you are buying.
3. Meet Your Cat’s Nutritional Needs.
Your cat needs a high amount of protein and enough fat, but keep Carbohydrates to a minimum. Choose cat food with good sources of protein such as Beef, Chicken and Fish.
4. Get Food With Natural Preservatives.
Look for cat food with natural preservatives such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Rosemary and citric acid rather than artificial preservatives.
5. Consult Your Vet.
If your cat has a condition such as Diabetes consult a vet before choosing food, in fact your vet can be a great resource for your cat’s dietary needs.
